ONE OF Scotland's finest fiddle players is set to undertake a short solo tour of her home turf in Shetland later this month.

Jenna Reid, originally from Quarff, but now living in Glasgow, is best known as a prominent member of Shetland group Filska and Scottish group Dochas.

Jenna has just been nominated in the category of 'Best Up and Coming Artist' in the finals of the Scottish Traditional Music Awards, which are being held in Edinburgh, next month.

Her short Shetland visit is in support of her critically acclaimed new solo album 'With Silver and All'.

She will be accompanied by Edinburgh based guitarist Kevin MacKenzie, who recently visited Shetland as a member of the Scottish Guitar Quartet.

The tour is promoted by the isles' music development programme. Davie Gardner of Shetland Art Trust said her two concerts promised to be a treat.

"It's always great when we can welcome back one of our own for gigs on the islands, especially at a time when they are making such a major impact on the national music scene.

"Jenna's new album is, for me, one of the best traditional/contemporary music albums released anywhere this year, so the local concerts should be very exciting and show a new musical aspect of Jenna to the one we already know and love".

Jenna Reid and Kevin MacKenzie will be appearing at Lerwick Town Hall on 25 November, supported by Malachy Tallack, who will be launching his new album that weekend, and singer/songwriter Marie Williamson from Whalsay and her band.

The following evening the Fetlar Hall will be the venue, when support will come from Fullsceilidh Spelemannslag and Jillian Isbister.

Tickets for both concerts, priced £7 and £5, will be available on the door.
