A PREMATURE baby was airlifted in an incubator from Shetland to hospital on the Scottish mainland this morning (Monday).

Royal Navy 177 was tasked by the Scottish Ambulance Service last night (Sunday) to pick up a medical team and the incubator from Dundee and to fly to Shetland.

The helicopter arrived at the Tingwall airstrip before midnight and left again with the baby at five past three this morning.

This was the second airlift of a newborn from the northern isles at the weekend. A baby was airlifted to Edinburgh hospital from Kirkwall on Saturday.
