The NAFC Marine Centre carries out a wide range of activities related to the fisheries and maritime industries, including training and education, research and development, environmental and quality monitoring, and advice and management.

The NAFC Marine Centre wishes to appoint an analyst to carry out a review of fish
stocks and fisheries on behalf of the North Western Waters Regional Advisory
Council (NWWRAC).

Working with other NAFC staff, you will be expected to take a
leading role in this project which will include:
􀁘 Liaising with members of the NWWRAC and other relevant persons in
various countries;
􀁘 Identifying, collating and reviewing readily available data on fish stocks
and fisheries in the waters to the West of Scotland (ICES area VI);
􀁘 Preparing a 'handbook' for the NWWRAC summarising the data obtained,
and characterising the fisheries and stock complexes in the area;

You should have at least a Masters Degree in a relevant discipline. Knowledge of
fisheries science, fishing, etc., would be advantageous, but good written and verbal
communication skills are essential. You should also have good IT skills (including
word processing, spreadsheets, and databases).

You may also be asked to contribute to other projects at NAFC.

This is a fixed-term appointment for six months, starting
on or before 1 March 2007.

The post will be based at the NAFC Marine Centre, but will require about one
month to be spent at the FRS Marine Laboratory in Aberdeen. Some additional
travel will also be required.

Salary: £18,840 per annum (plus a distant islands allowance of £1,593 pa).
