SENIOR pupils from the Brae High School are joining the Christmas market with a
CD of Shetland tales and poems.
They have formed the Young Enterprise company Filsket in a bid to prevent
stories from being lost in time and also to allow a larger audience to discover
the richness of Shetland dialect and its culture.
A wide range of stories and poems from Mitchell Arthur’s ‘Sunday Buits’ to
George Peterson’s ‘Trows Gio’ are expressed on the CD with musical interludes
provided by two of Shetland’s Young Musicians of the Year – Ryan Couper and Adam
Johnson.
The CD also features an accompanying booklet with background information on the
12 story tellers and their tales.
Entitled ‘Spinnin Yarns ’more than 400 copies have already been sold through pre
launch booking.
To celebrate the launch, pupils will gather at Busta House Hotel tonight
(Wednesday) for an evening of entertainment.
The cream of Shetland’s storytelling fraternity will be present having given
their time to assist the project.
Donations to a number of charities including Dogs against Drugs and Cancer
Research UK will be made from the surplus of the project.
The CD is now on sale in local shops retailing at £10.99. Alternatively, it can
also be bought online at
