NEW Scottish education minister Maureen Watt will be in Shetland
tomorrow (Friday) to check up on pupils' work in the isles.
Ms Watt is to meet with teachers and pupils at Sound Primary School,
Lerwick, and at the Scalloway Junior High.
She will also hold talks with head of schools Helen Budge and the
chairman of the isles' social services committee, councillor Gussie
Angus.
While visiting Sound, the minister will officially open the new
active play area at the school, which has been created in
consultation with primary three to seven pupils. The play area will
also be used as an outdoor PE classroom.
Speaking ahead of her visit to Shetland, Ms Watt said: "Education is
at the heart of what this government wants to achieve for Scotland
and it's fantastic to witness first-hand how our teachers are
inspiring the next generation. |

"We're committed to helping all schools play their part in creating
a smarter Scotland, just like Sound Primary and Scalloway Junior
High are doing." The minister is due to head back to
Edinburgh later the same day.
