POLICE in Shetland are once again warning drivers to watch out for
wintry weather conditions following at least six road traffic
accidents since Christmas Eve.

Some people sustained injuries and all
caused considerable damage to the vehicles involved.
Yesterday (Thursday) recovery services were trying to remove two
cars from the bog after they had left the road two miles south of
the Vidlin junction and overturned.
Severe weather conditions have been the main contributing factor in
most of these incidents.
Sergeant MacBeath said: “Motorists should be aware that road
conditions can vary considerably within a relatively short distance
and in a short period of time. |
|
“They should be
constantly watchful for any signs whatsoever that conditions may
change or are actually changing, both on the road surface and in the
area through which they are passing.
“Motorists should also bear in mind the information published in
local media by Shetland Islands Council in regard to winter road
maintenance and in particular regarding times of service.
“They should plan their journeys with such in mind and leave ample
time to complete them.”
Meanwhile, a man has been apprehended and a report will be sent to
the procurator fiscal following the theft of a brand new Vodafone
810 mobile on Christmas Day.
The man will also be reported for an alleged breach of bail
conditions imposed at Lerwick Sheriff Court on 21 December.
The phone has not yet been found and is described as black and
silver in colour with a “slide style”.
Anyone with any information should contact the police on 01595
692110. |
