IT IS a serious offence to buy alcohol for underage youngsters and
it is right and proper that anyone caught doing so be punished.
I refer here to the case of Iain Tulloch
jailed yesterday (Wednesday), but
at the same time those youngsters knew exactly what they were doing
when determined to ‘get wasted’ and persuade some weak and foolish
person to buy alcohol for them. They should be thoroughly ashamed of
themselves.
More and more we hear of youngsters found intoxicated around the
town. These youngsters are streetwise, cunning and very determined
to get drunk, their parents seemingly unable or unwilling to control
them.
Very soon the situation will spiral out of control. It’s time to
take off the ‘kid glove’ approach and get tough. Naming and shaming
would be a very good first step though shame is not a concept
understood these days.
Yours sincerely
