PUBLIC relations staff from Lerwick are raising cash for the local lifeboat service by taking a yellow wellie around the country.

The launch of Shaw Marketing and Design's Yellow Wellie Relay from Lerwick to Edinburgh. Along with the yellow wellie itself are Shaw's Shetland team, Lerwick Lifeboat coxswain Bruce Leask, Moira Leask of Lerwick Ladies Lifeboat Guild, NorthLink Ferries' chief executive Bill Davidson, NorthLink Ferries¢ shore staff, and crew of the MV Hjaltland. NorthLink Ferries are supporting the relay, which is aimed to raise funds for the RNLI.Employees from Shaw Marketing and Design arrive in Aberdeen this morning (Friday) as part of a “yellow wellie relay”.

The relay involves delivering the wellie from their Lerwick office to their office in Edinburgh over the course of five weekends, stopping off at all seven lifeboat stations on the way by 26 October.

Yesterday Shetland lifeboat coxswain Bruce Leask became the first RNLI representative to sign the wellie before it went south on the ferry.

The RNLI has thrown down the gauntlet to companies in Scotland to try and raise £1,000 for them by December, with Shaw hoping they will beat this target with their scheme.

Shaw’s deputy managing director Isabel Johnson said: “RNLI challenged the creative industries to
raise funds in a creative way and our response is the Yellow Wellie Relay.

“Our team have certainly risen to this challenge and we hope to raise far in excess of the £1,000 target set by RNLI.”

Shaw’s clients are also being encouraged to take part and can put themselves forward by calling 01595 692465 or by e-mail at shetland@shaw-online.com
