SCOTTISH WATER has renewed its appeal to customers in Shetland to
look out for leaky pipes amid the current thaw.
Spokesman Jason Rose said yesterday (Monday) that engineers had been
out fixing minor leaks, but nothing major had been discovered so
far.
He said demand for drinking water had increased dramatically,
indicating that the thaw may have caused bursts on public water
mains and private pipes within properties.
Scottish Water's team manager for the northern isles, Sandy
McConnachie, said: "I would urge householders to keep an eye out for
any leaks on their properties. It would be shame to see good quality
drinking water going to waste and we've certainly stepped up our
leakage detection work."
