SHETLAND lass Sophie Drosso made her mark on the national fencing scene at the
weekend when she came 12th in the women’s foil competition at the Scottish Open.
Coach Andy Alderman said he was pleased with the result pointing out that the
Scottish Open had only been the fourteen year old’s second ever competition.
Meanwhile, Stephen Rocks (19) came 8th in the men's sabre competition losing to
the later silver medallist.
Mr Alderman said: “The event is a major Scottish senior event, attracting
fencers from as far away as Germany to compete.”
It was held at Fettes College in Edinburgh.
