FAR be it for me to labour a point but I think Alan Robertson (‘Roadworks
not a big deal’; SN 27/06/08) will find that road works
are and have been going on for weeks in the town centre and around
Lerwick.
That is on top of all the many other (and I'm sure necessary) works
throughout the islands which visitors and residents alike have to
see and endure.
I am also well aware of the chaos in many areas on the mainland. I
expect I will see the same when I travel down to England to see my
daughters and grand bairns in July/August.
I feel Mr Robertson missed my point about the overall picture of
Lerwick and immediate areas that folk are presented with when
arriving in what is a port, holiday
destination, and county town after spending a lot of money to get
here.
Also as the wife of a bus driver who has had to negotiate the said
works, and suddenly changed routes, plus negative comments from
passengers, I can empathise with those who have to travel into and
around town on daily basis.
I have a choice whether to visit events, or shop in town all of
which I enjoy, but even getting around with my mobility problems is
a bit much sometimes.
Yours respectfully
Mrs S. Willshaw
