A SHETLAND man was jailed for two months after he admitted supplying
a group of 14 year old girls with vodka and alcopops, at Lerwick
Sheriff Court yesterday (Wednesday).
One of the girls ended up having her stomach pumped at Gilbert Bain
Hospital after she drank herself unconscious.
The court heard that the girls had "decided they were going to get
wasted", and one of them approached 38 year old Iain Tulloch, of
Breiwick Road, Lerwick, in a lane off Commercial Street, on 18
February.
Initially he had refused to take the £30 they had clubbed together,
but relented and bought them three bottles of vodka and three
alcopops.
Procurator fiscal Duncan Mackenzie told the court one of the girls
was found unconscious just two and a half hours later.
Defence agent Tommy Allan said Tulloch had thought the girl was 17
and had only given in to the request when the girl persisted. |

Jailing him, Sheriff
Graeme Napier said: "It's a serious and significant problem that
people in Shetland will willingly purchase alcohol for young
children."
